la sometimes i wonder if i
From here Cindy's brilliant great post Also I wonder what Warren would make of all of this? 00000000000000000000000
The list:
1. Hollywood Entertainment Museum
Yes, in fact me and my friend also tried to do the slightly less famous but much more cool sounding Max Factor Makeup Museum by Mel's Diner
2. Venice's Abbot Kinney Blvd. shops
Dude, defi-fuckin-netely. Venice is the place to shop for freaky touristy artsy pointless shit.
3. Topanga Canyon's Inn of the Seventh Ray
Fuck no, do I look rich bitch???? But I have been to Temescal Canyon and consider it's hiking trail's view of the Santa Monica pier one of the prettiest in all LA
4. Catalina Island
No. I had tickets but I didn't go because supposedly you had to pay tax or something and I didn't want to pay more.
5. Downtown's Flower Market
Almost at midnite on a desperate last bid to buy several hundred dozen roses for my mother's job.
6. One spa at Santa Monica's Shutters on the Beach
HAHAHAHAHAHHAA FUCK NO. I hate spas with all the heart and soul of a hearty souley thing.
7. Pink's hot dogs
Chili Cheese with no Onions, Ms Pink even autographed something for me at nearby Golden Apple.
8. Fred Segal's
Fuckity yeah, expensive but cute to look around, I like the Robinson's May at nearby Santa Monica Place mucho more.
9. Free TV tapings
No I always promised several clubs I'd go but I never did, I did participate in a tv taping several times but that was for something else.
10. La Brea Tar Pits
MAAAAAAAAAAD MAAAAAAAAAAD LoOOOOOOOOOOVE as a kid my parents had annual memberships to all the museums, Page, Natural History, and LACMA so of course the pits were the best part to go look at the poor mammoths stuck in the sticky smelly stuff. (If you have no idea what the fuck this is, think Simpsons, think Stampy the elephant part one, think Sin City think the part where the Clive Owen falls into the mud looking black stuff)
11. Chinatown's Chung King Road galleries
Peh, teh boring, bring back my favorite restaurant with the good ribs bastitches.
12. Hollywood Forever cemetery
Eeew, no I merely drive by it all the time. Although word on the street is if you go on Dec 31 they serve tea and cookies.
13. Museum of Jurassic Technology (in Culver City)
Nope, but I've heard of it.
14. Larchmont Blvd. (especially Cafe Chapeau)
Driven by like everything in LA
15. Shopping at Robertson and 3rd
Drvie by.
16. Grand Central Market
When I was a wee babe my grammy would buy me little tiny pies in tiny tins.
17. American Cinematheque's Egyptian Theatre
The Latin-American Film Festival is held there annually and I usually check at least two of the flicks out.
18. Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels -
I went there post-pope mortum, and also right after they innaugarated to check out if the inside did indeed make up for the deplorable outside. (It does specially the beautiful murals of the many varied ethnicity saints, which is really sooo la in a good way)
19. Live music at Santa Monica's McCabe's
Nope, more like live entertainment and street performer music on Santa Moni's third street promenade.
20. Los Angeles River (Los Feliz to downtown) -
Ugggghhh, I've even helped to clean it up. UUUUUUUUUGh, nasty doesn't begin to explain.
21. Beverly Hills Hotel
My father's prom was held here.
22. Venice's canals
Yes, but I don't like them. They make me sad for the lost wetlands much in the same way the Ballonas do now. I shed a green tear for the disgusting loss of habitat and animal wildlife.
23. Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park -
Is that where the stupid sign is? I've been to the observatory, another one of my favorite smart ass places like the LACMA and NHM
24. Little Ethiopia restaurants -
Nope I just drive by, my parents have been there but they never want to invite me and my sister. Same thing with the cool only before noon secret fresh seafood place downtown.
25. The Grove -
So utterly, horribly overrated, the only cool thing is the tiny itty bit left over of the farmer's market and the little trolley and the fountain everything else is shit. OOOh and the snow during winter, that's the shit..
26. Koreatown's Brass Monkey
Nah, believe it or not K-Towns actually out of my commute. I've only ever passed thru.
27. Farmer's Markets in Hollywood and Santa Monica
Fuckity year, the best one is the Hollywood, less old drivers....*going to hell* Seriously though the Hollywood is great fun and I adore it.
28. Melrose's Urth Caffe
The only good things in Melrose are as follows, the cheap weirdo clothing stores, teh wind up toy co, and GOLDEN APPLE!!!!
29. Adamson House
What teh fuck, I have a feeling if I ask my daddy he'll say duuuuh we go there all the time.
30. Philippe's french dip sandwiches
Again my 'rents go here all the time for lunch but me??? Me, I get sent to Hop Lui's in Chinatown or a special place in Olvera Street that sells cheap but ridiculously delicious sopes.
THE LATIN/CHICANO/Mex-American/HISPANIC/SPANISH listy thing composed by the coolest blogger ever ever cindy
1. La Placita Olvera is a must. Yeah, I know it's hella touristy, but it is important.
Dude I used to be a hardcore volunteer/patrocinador of the Mexican Culture Instute located right there also. I love, love Olvera, also see Sopes of DEATH as detailed above. Also candy, oooooooh the Mexican candy, coconut and yam and pumpkin and mango chili lollipops and saladitos and did I mention COCADAS??????? those delicious little balls of coconut baked and gooey and yuuuuuuuuuuum. *DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOL*
2. Dodger Stadium/Chavez Ravine. It's great for a game, but I think you should also realize a whole community was displaced with promises of new low-income housing and then later swindled by the city who preferred a ballpark in the area.
All I know is that the most offensive and annoying thing in the world is for white conservatives to be bitching about the recent court decisions regarding Imminent Domain when they've been fucking us up the ass with that all this time. Fuck you bastitches you starteds it. Also, GOOOOO ANGEEEEEELSSSSSSS
3. Drive around East LA to check out murals.
Meh, I like the freeway ones better, also I like to walk rather than drive when going around neighboorhoods like East Los, or Silver Lake or China Town, otherwise you miss all the cool secret bits.
4. Speaking of murals, check out the Great Wall of Los Angeles.
Oooh, right. whatthefuck is that? the million miles of freeways???
5. El Tepeyac for Manuel's Special giant burrito.
Indigestion city, then again perhaps they reallly really aren't meant as individual meals.
6. Flautas at Ciro's.
My mom's favorites and the only reason she's still married to the ol' man. She went so far as to learn how to make 'em!!! (Me, I like the rice and the sopes only) And frankly there aint no red rice like Abue's secret recipe. Someday I too will learn it, and mess it irrevocably up and have to live with my sister carrying on the tradition.
7. El Mercadito in East LA for shopping and a dinner accompanied by mariachis.
Again so the boring and yucky and smelly, only good part is the outdoor vendors with the little cups of gelatina and arroz con leche and budin and other yummy sweet goodies.
8. Los Callejones in the Garment District (Santee Alley)
Considering the landlords are Middle Eastern, the sellers and buyers tend to be Asian, and some of the sellers are also black and now there's a bunch of white people up in there trying to be trendy this is not very hispanicky for me. Frankly I think the stores over in Boyle Heighst and Lincoln Heights are more Latin flavored.
9. La Guelaguetza for Oaxacan food
Yes, which one? The Sunset, mid Wilshire area one? That's a damn fucking good one, a guy I knew used to play there every wednesday. Also, the mole they serve with chips = teh droooooool yuuuuuuuuuum
10. Calvary Cemetery in East LA (especially around Christmas-time)
Again I don't like cemeterys and usually for day of the dead and such I gotta go to Gramps whose over at the Forest Lawn far off as you head towards Vegas
11. King Taco for post-club/bar muchies
Tacos de Lengua at 3 am the week of finals. good times, I love the one by my favorite biblioteca, the East Los County Library, *beautiful new building* my sister tricks dad into buying tacos there all the time. Also King Torta in El Sereno is the godly of tortas, also Tlaquepaque taco stand thing is teh goodness when they aren't being halfassed about their tacos.
