On Friday after a particularly harrowing week my mom sis and I made our way to the movies. I saw the utterly fucking brilliant Aviator. That movie is so damned good. I fell in love with Leonardo DiCaprio again. It happens every so often when he acts good. Basketball Diaries=Love, Romeo and Juliet (not really I love John Leguizamo's sexcellent Tybalt), TItanic=Love, Man in the Iron Mask=not really although Gerard DePardieu's Porthos=Best Porthos Ever, Catch me if you can=meh, enjoyed the story but no heavy Leo love, Aviator=Love.

It was a damned good movie and Leo proves why he should be nominated for an Oscar. Win, I don't know it's a hard call Jamie Foxx's Ray was incredible. Javier Bardem's paraplegic guy who wants to die was moving and astounding. I'm tied.

After that we headed to Angelo's for pizza. It was excellent. I also ordered a side of rigatoni I ate later that was very good. I didn't know Rigatoni were the big noodle things. Go fig, I thought they might be something like the ravioli. Anyway it was good except....

Well....you know how the Aviator is about crazy ol' Howard Hughes? If you don't know Howard Hughes think Mr. Burns in the one episode where he owns the casino.

In other words he's crazy right? And he's clean up, obsessive compulsive type crazy. And Leo plays that excellently, superbly, incredibly well. So after movie my sister finds a trace of chocolate on her jacket, obviously she goes to clean up. We sort of nervously laugh and complain how she's become all Howard Hughes-y. Well...cut to the restaurant.

We get a table sooner than expected. It ends up being next to the restrooms so my mother anxiously complains to the waiter to move us. Fine, fine, it takes about a half hour to get another table. We move and it's a little nicer. (I liked the bathroom table because it was cozier and more nicely decorated, plus the neighboring tables were less noisy) Well after all that the waiter finally returns and takes our drink orders. Two sodas, one pink lemonade and one hot tea, later we encounter situation number two of the evening! The tea cup which was for the mother (who was the bathroom table complainer) was dirty. Not particularly very dirty but with some debris on the side. The mother is not amused. She has the tea cup removed and orders another.

We wait a damn while because the food apparently is made after you order it, which is fine for a fast food place that has the burgers grilling, the buns cooking and the ingredients pre-prepared. But it is a damn stupid idea for a place that has to make everything, including apparently dough and sauce ahead of time. Finally about an hour and a half later the waiter brings plates and the promise that the pizza will arrive in another thirty minutes. I pick up the first plate. Full of left over crust and crumbs. The plate was obviously clean but somehow crusts and crumbs had fallen on it. Shit. But the Loca would be damned if she sent the plate back and had to wait longer for food so unlike everyone else who was being Howard Hughes-y I cleaned the plate off with napkin and left it at that.

Eventually the pizza a split pepperoni/hawaiian showed up. We ate, enjoyed and all was well.

On Saturday I had work which kept me from my most favorite holiday of the year. I was very upset. You see there are two holidays I celebrate and await eagerly because they are both properly commercialized and fun. The Holloween-Dia de Los Muertos two days of creepy good natured fun in which we are reminded that pumpkins are the funnest of squashes and sugar and chocolate shaped skulls make for the greatest candy ever. I specially love when my birthday the 29 is a thursday which means that the weekend is Holloween/Day of the Dead!!

The second holiday that I adore and doesn't make me puke is Chinese New Years. Again candy is a big motive here, I grew up addicted to New Year's day candy. Now I can't get enough. I have been known to buy it in massive quantities if I can find it off season. The other has to do with the decorative theme, I love gold and red as main colors and the use of stylized dragons. I love the looks of these two holidays, I love how colorful they are. The oranges, blacks, purples and greens of Hollyween and the black, orange and white of Dia de Los Muertos. They just feel like genuine holidays about people having fun and remembering the important things in life, candy, candy, and more candy.

Well I was pretty upset from Saturday to Sunday that I had to work through my second favorite holiday, so imagine my surprise when I find out that I can go this weekend. Apparently while I missed one festival, I can go to the next one in Chinatown this weekend which will be open until 8pm meaning I can make time after work! So this Saturday right after work I am going straight to the festival! Here's to loads of dim sum, candy and good luck.

So shit on thursday the car broke down and now I am so the fucked. Missing today tomorrow and probably Monday Tuesday, must be there on wednesday for midterm purposes. ah fuck it. must get better job soon to pay for new better car.
